Welcome to QLT PhotoTherapeutics.
As a newly public company in 1986, QLT comprised a handful of scientists and professionals who sought to develop applications using photodynamic therapy to combat debilitating disease around the world. The tremendous potential of photodynamic therapy, which we recognized at that time, has since been realized and surpassed: from the development of PHOTOFRIN® for use in cancer treatment to our latest, most promising product, VisudyneTM, to treat the wet form of age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness in people over 50. In keeping stride with photodynamic therapy's promise, QLT PhotoTherapeutics has continued to grow. Today we are a global leader in our field with over 250 professionals representing science, technology and business, all of whom work with purposefulness and dedication. As we've matured, we have learned that only by working together can we achieve the lofty goals set for ourselves. That's why we've created partnerships with world leaders such as CIBA Vision and Sanofi Pharmaceuticals to help us bring the benefits of photodynamic therapy to patients around the world. Moving forward to develop applications in uncharted therapeutic areas such as ophthalmology, autoimmune and cardiovascular illness, we are excited at the prospect of finding new disease treatments and confident that we are at the beginning of a rich, new era of growth and discovery for QLT. And guiding each step along the way will be our founding aim: to improve and enhance the quality of life for patients all over the world. Because our business is science. Our product is life.
